A compelling coming of age story with an unlikely and utterly memorable heroine, Child of the River is a timeless tale of heartbreak and triumph set in South Africa at the dawn of apartheid.

Persomi is young, white, and poor, born the middle child of illiterate sharecroppers on the prosperous Fourie farm in the South African Bushveld. Persomi's world is extraordinarily small. She has never been to the local village and spends her days absorbed in the rhythms of the natural world around her, escaping the brutality and squalor of her family home through the newspapers and books passed down to her from the main house and through her walks in the nearby mountains.

Persomi's close relationship with her older brother Gerbrand and her fragile friendship with Boelie Fourie--heir to the Fourie farm and fortune--are her lifeline and her only connection to the outside world. When Gerbrand leaves the farm to fight on the side of the Anglos in WWII and Boelie joins an underground network of Boer nationalists, Persomi's isolated world is blown wide open. But as her very small world falls apart, bigger dreams become open to her--dreams of an education, a profession, a native country that values justice and equality, and of love. As Persomi navigates the changing world around her--the tragedies of war and the devastating racial strife of her homeland--she finally discovers who she truly is, where she belongs, and why her life--and every life--matters.

Great spiritual guide
It’s a fairly confusing book if you don’t know a lot about the Orthodox Church. But for anyone with enough patience to want to learn how to grow spiritually this is perfect.

Will lead you on the good path
Format: Paperback
I’ve barely made my way through the rungs of the ladder, but this book is definitely one of the greater books I’ve read, however I will say that people are right when they say this specific copy has a quite a few spelling errors, but I’m personally able to manage it well. I must warn you though, THIS IS NOT A LIGHT READ, if you’re looking for something simple to learn from, look elsewhere. This book isn’t an easy pill to swallow if you’re not open minded and at least somewhat familiar with the theology of the early church fathers, however if you are, I highly recommend you give this a read if you haven’t already. Once again, a fantastic read, but read at your own discretion.

Excellent Guide for the Soul and the Spiritual Journey
This book was one that I somehow decided upon--seemed like divine providence. For the book ended up being quite pivotal for this point in my spiritual journey. I found it very readable, loved Climacus' to-the-point style but with yet eloquent presentation. A friend who is 87 and reads books with me, across the miles, loved this book, also. It is a kind of a guidebook for the soul, step by step. The translation is excellent; the introduction quite helpful, too. I bought the book used online, and rather than resell it, this book is definitely staying in my possession so that I can refer back to it. Excellent!

Freshness that Lasts
Flavor Name: Peppermint, Size: 3 Pack
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first tried Zelmin Breath Mints, but they’ve quickly become my favorite way to keep my breath fresh and my confidence high. The flavor is crisp and invigorating without being overpowering, and unlike many mints that fade after just a few minutes, these actually last. The packaging is compact and convenient, making it easy to slip into a pocket or bag, and the taste strikes the perfect balance, refreshing without being overly sweet. What impressed me most is the performance: the long-lasting freshness truly sets these apart, and there’s no chalky texture or artificial aftertaste, just clean, cool breath. I’ve tried countless mints over the years, but Zelmin stands out for its quality and effectiveness. If you’re looking for something reliable that delivers on freshness, this is it. Highly recommend! Not too sweet too!
